Cumulative Impact of Welfare Reforms

The Government has agreed to consider for debate a cumulative impact assessment of cuts and changes that affect people with disabilities and their family carers if the number of signatories reaches over 100,000 – around 44,000 more signatures are needed before the petition closes on 12th December this year.  

Family Carers News Digest

Twice a year, the Home Farm Trust publishes a Family Carers News Digest, which is packed full of information about national and regional developments and debates, and contains a wealth of information about resources available to carers etc. The Summer edition is out and is available free to family carers by emailing a request to: [email protected] , but can be viewed on their website www.hft.org.uk under `Family Carers`.

Work capability assessment consultation

Seminar about making a will / Trust fund

Making a will / setting up a Trust Fund for the benefit of a loved one with a learning disability – free seminars for carers on 21st March 2013 in Leeds and York.

The Safe Places Project

The Safe Places project across Kirklees aims to provide a safe environment for people with learning disabilities who may require some additional support when out and about in the community. They are ‘havens’ for people to turn to in busy public places if they need help or reassurance. Safe Places are all buildings that are open to the public such as shops, leisure centres or public buildings.

PIP - Meeting at Waverley Hall with Jackie Codman

A special meeting for carers who want to know more about the change from Disability Living Allowance to Personal Independence Payments has been arranged for 11th February 2013. All welcome.

Direct payments – a guide written by carers for carers

Following the success of the Carers Guide to assessment, and in response to regular concerns about the ground-rules for direct payments, a small group of carers have prepared a 'Guide to Direct Payments' which is now complete and which is available on this website and in written form from Maureen Connor.
